Job Summary Northland Community and Technical College seeks a full-time unlimited Student Success Advisor on the Thief River Falls campus. This position provides first level support that successfully guides students through academic and non-academic challenges by instructing students on higher education systems and practices to increase student enrollment, engagement, retention, and completion from the point of prospect relations to graduation and job placement. Working in tandem with the faculty program advisors, liberal arts and sciences advisors, and the faculty counseling position, this role acts as the primary liaison to the new and currently enrolled student populations. Through rapport and use of strong interpersonal skills, the success navigator intentionally builds active relationships with students throughout the semester offering comprehensive support through all aspects of the higher education experience. This role also promotes awareness and understanding of the College's mission and programs to stakeholders both inside and outside the of the institution and helps create an equitable learning environment by making data-based decisions within a team environment.
Principle Responsibilities and Results:
1. Act as a comprehensive advocate for students to insure their success. Assist with academic advising, help to navigate the admissions and financial aid processes, connect with college and community resources, and facilitate involvement in student clubs, activities, or athletics.
a. Serve as a primary representative of advising services to students, advising and connecting them with subject matter experts as needed.
b. Work in tandem with assigned faculty partners as a student affairs liaison to ensure a smooth flow of communication between academics and student affairs, and to ensure that students receive a comprehensive advising and support structure. c. Provide an accessible and welcoming presence to students and families via in-person, phone, video conferencing, text, and e-mail on a regular and consistent basis to support acclimation into the higher education environment. d. Accurately track, document and communicate student requirements and progression to NCTC offices as needed using NCTC's CRM. e. Provide support to students with first level degree planning, course registration, and academic policies and procedures, such as satisfactory progress expectations. f. As part of the Enrollment and Advising Services team, create intrusive advising opportunities by planning events that will raise awareness of student success initiatives, including DARS, uSelect, program selection, and program awareness. g. Facilitate connection to second level advising/support when complicated scenarios are presented, including linking students with subject matter experts in financial aid, business office, and academic services (i.e. placement testing, registration systems - adding, dropping, withdrawing), transfer of credit review, and academic/career exploration, and the like. h. Promote academic success by continually monitoring student progress and making referrals for academic support services as needed. Follow-up to assure student participation and completion of documentation requirements. i. Provide general information about financial aid and scholarship opportunities and processes.

2. Evaluate and improve first year student experiences by addressing equity gaps.
a. Utilize institutional equity data and Equity By Design strategies to inform and address academic success gaps.
b. Develop flexible programming to increase students sense of belonging through co-curricular opportunities offered days, evenings, and weekends.
Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 10%
3. Provide comprehensive student support, including assistance with basic needs.
a. Facilitate opportunities in one-on-one and group environments that lead to academic success including organizational skills, time management, study skills, understanding course expectations, communicating with faculty, self-advocacy, etc.
b. Act as a liaison to the local community guiding students to available resources. This position will actively build relationships with students providing comprehensive care throughout the semester.
Priority: Secondary Percent of Time: 5%
4. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
a. Provide work direction to student workers, as needed.
b. Provide backup coverage for coworkers' absences in the department.
c. Attend training sessions, as required.
d. Act as NCTC liaison with staff from local agencies and other MinnState institutions.
e. Represents Student Affairs in various college meetings and compiles data and reports for college use.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• 2-year degree or diploma and two-years of related experience
• Proficiency with a variety of word processing, database and web-based applications sufficient to accurately collect data and create reports
• The ability to work with minimal supervision and ability to make decisions independently regarding workload, problems or situations
• Excellent organizational, planning, and management skills
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of student development.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and oral) in order to communicate effectively with students, employees without supervision or review
• Willing to work as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
• Baccalaureate Degree in a related field, i.e. Human Resources, Public Administration, Social Work, or
Education
• Experience in higher education
• Experience in developing academic plans
• Evidence of commitment to the success of culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse populations of students, staff, and faculty.
• Knowledge of public, private, and community social services and resource agencies sufficient to provide referrals to students
• Knowledge of data privacy practices and FERPA
• Experience providing academic and/or employment case management
• Knowledge of the functions of Academic Affairs and of Northland Community and Technical College
