The College of Health, Arts, and Sciences at Oregon Tech, an Oregon public university, is seeking candidates for a half-time, non-tenure-track writing instructor to teach in the Communication Department beginning Fall 2023.

Position Summary: 

This Instructor will primarily teach courses in academic, professional, and technical writing. The teaching load is approximately seven credits per term.

The instructor's primary role is to provide face-to-face instruction in writing for students on Oregon Tech's Portland Metro campus, in service of the 18 credits in communication required of all Oregon Tech students.

Departmental Information:

The Communication Department is at Oregon Tech is exceptionally committed to ensuring that all graduates can communicate effectively. We provide courses that fulfill the university’s requirement of 18 credits of general education coursework in academic and technical writing as well as public speaking and group communication. This requirement reflects the feedback and direction of Oregon Tech’s many Industry Advisory Boards. At the Klamath Falls campus, the department offers majors in Professional Writing and Communication Studies; minors in Human Interaction and Professional Writing & Technical Communication; and a certificate in Dispute Resolution.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • M.A. in Rhetoric/Composition or Technical/Professional Communication OR master's degree in a related disciplinary field with substantial graduate training in Rhetoric/Composition or Technical/Professional Communication
  • Experience teaching college-level academic, technical, and professional writing courses with a rhetorical focus

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, Technical/Professional Communication or a closely related field
  • Excellent technology skills (MS Office, Adobe Suite, WordPress, or other contemporary desktop productivity and publishing tools)
  • Experience teaching adult learners, veterans, and other non-traditional student populations
  • Experience or interest in curricular assessment
