Position Overview:
The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction (K-12) will oversee and lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of all district instructional programs, assessments, and professional development initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Superintendent, building principals, directors, and staff to ensure that curriculum and instruction reflect the highest standards, meet the diverse needs of all learners, and align with state and district goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum & Instructional Leadership:
- Develop, review, and implement a vertically and horizontally aligned curriculum that meets state standards (including NJSLS) and district goals.
- Oversee the development and implementation of the district’s Gifted and Talented (G&T) curriculum to ensure enrichment opportunities are provided for advanced learners.
- Monitor and analyze district data (NJSLA, DLM, LinkIt, QSAC) to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for targeted intervention and program improvement.
- Lead the development and integration of innovative instructional strategies, including technology-driven learning solutions and best practices for diverse learners.
- Foster high standards in literacy, STEM, the arts, and social-emotional learning across K-12.
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Intervention Programs:
- Oversee the district's MTSS framework, ensuring that interventions and supports are implemented with fidelity to meet the needs of all students, including those at risk.
- Supervise and support instructional coaches and interventionists to ensure effective practices and consistency in implementing district initiatives.
- Collaborate with school and district staff to ensure that intervention programs, including summer school and after-school supports, are data-driven and achieve measurable results.
Professional Development:
- Design and deliver robust professional learning opportunities that empower staff to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes.
- Support teachers and administrators with implementing IEPs, 504 plans, and other individualized learning programs to ensure compliance and equitable instruction.
- Promote data-informed decision-making through training on assessment tools, evaluation methods, and data analysis practices.
Collaboration & Strategic Planning:
- Partner with principals and directors to ensure consistency, equity, and alignment in instructional practices district-wide.
- Support the development and implementation of administrative PDPs, SMART goals, and teacher evaluation systems aligned with district and board goals.
- Act as a key contributor to initiatives that improve the district's ranking and reputation, such as enhancing student achievement and fostering a culture of trust and excellence.
Assessment & Accountability:
- Oversee district assessment programs, ensuring valid and reliable tools to measure student growth and guide instructional planning.
- Lead the integration of NJ Smart data timelines, LinkIt testing protocols, and other data systems to inform curriculum and instruction.
- Regularly report progress to the Superintendent, Board of Education, and other stakeholders, with a focus on measurable student outcomes.
Equity & Inclusion:
- Ensure that all instructional programs are equitable, culturally responsive, and accessible to students of all abilities, backgrounds, and socioeconomic statuses.
- Collaborate with the Special Services Director to meet the needs of students requiring accommodations, special education services, or elopement plans.
- Advocate for policies and practices that prioritize inclusivity and celebrate diversity within the school community.
Qualifications:
Required:
- New Jersey School Administrator Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility.
- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in educational leadership, including curriculum development and implementation.
- Proven success as a school or district administrator, with a focus on improving student outcomes and leading transformative initiatives.
- Deep knowledge of K-12 curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
Preferred:
- Expertise in data analysis, assessment systems, and accountability frameworks (e.g., QSAC, NJ Smart, LinkIt).
- Experience with strategic planning and school improvement initiatives.
