POSITION SUMMARY
Maintains the student information system, provides necessary NASIS trainings for teachers and parents, and performs specialized tasks as assigned by the administrative staff. The incumbent also handles confidential information and makes frequent contact will all levels of school employees, parents, students and state/federal agencies when necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, & RESPONSIBILITIES
ý Manages security and user help systems relating to student information system, including training for staff and parents using the system.
ý Consults with users, administration, vendors, and technicians to assess computing needs and system requirements.
ý Consults with users to customize student information system to meet departmental reporting needs.
ý Designs and implements information management procedures.
ý Compiles, analyzes, and provides valid conclusions from information system data.
ý Prepares SFIS, county, state and federal reports.
ý Trains staff on the proper use of information systems and data quality practices.
ý Stays abreast of changes in technology, software, products.
ý Meets with department heads, managers, supervisors, and others to solicit cooperation and resolve problems.
ý Provides users with technical support for student information system problems.
ý Evaluates data processing proposals to assess project feasibility and requirements.
ý Coordinates with the BIE's NASIS team to ensure valid data for end of year reports and assessments.
ý Creates filters to be used in reports for administration and other users as required.
ý Provides data for reports and provides reports for administrative purposes.
ý Attends required meetings.
ý Supports the principal by enforcing the vision, mission, policies, and procedures of the school and the academic program.
ý Proactively encourages SFIS Core Values in staff behavior.
ý Serves as a professional role model and facilitator.
ý Submits quarterly report to the principals.
ý Acts as backup time-keeper when time-keeper is absent.
ý Performs other essential duties assigned by the principal.
ý The incumbent assists the principal with supervision of the high school support staff members and budgetary issues for the purpose of smooth operation of the program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
ý Knowledge of common desktop software applications including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
ý Knowledge of student information systems, emergency calling systems, food services systems, learning management systems, student assessment systems, and geographic information systems.
ý Ability to manage information systems, databases, write queries and design automated reports.
ý Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
ý Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, students, parents and staff.
ý Ability to analyze and apply current information from state, federal and other governmental regulations.ý
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer and information Sciences, General; or Computer Science; or Information Science/Studies; or Management Information Systems and three (3) years of work-related experience is needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Native American students, Native American or Tribal entities, preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid NM driverýs license and must complete and successfully pass a background investigation, including FBI fingerprint check.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position; sitting, standing, lifting, carrying (up to 30 lbs.), reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required. Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Have manual and finger dexterity. Occasionally required to reach above shoulder level, repetitive hand, and arm motions; Must be able to see, read and record small numbers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT, SAFETY, & EQUIPMENT
Work is generally performed in an office setting. Frequent use of communication equipment and computers. Evening, holiday, and weekend work may be required. Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. May require traveling to various communities to meet with students, parents and/or guardians.
Safety and Health Requirements:
ý Proper posture is required to eliminate acute and chronic low back pain.
ý Complete all required safety and health training.
ý Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions and knowledge of safe school precautions.
ý The employee must adhere to SFIS safety protocols and crisis plans.
Equipment/Material Handled:
Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, all multi-media equipment, software, and current technology.
CONDITIONS
Any employee may be required to stay at or return to work during incidents and/or emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency.
