Definition of Class
This position directs, manages, and oversees the operational activities of the academic and education programs within the Center for Manufacturing Excellence.
Examples of Work Performed
- Provides academic and career advising for CME undergraduate and graduate students; maintains records for academic and career advising.
- Tracks the progress of enrolled undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education students to ensure they are meeting program requirements. Audits student records to confirm graduation eligibility.
- Serve as Executive Secretary to the CME Curriculum and Policy Committee including agenda preparation, notes, records, and monitoring of Academic Workflow.
- Acts as an advisor for CME students participating in the cooperative education or internship program.
- Serves as the CME staff liaison and advisor to the CME Student Advisory Board.
- Aids in student recruitment to the CME program which includes participating in student events. Also serves as a member of the CME's admissions and scholarship selection committee.
- Provides strategic direction and oversight for enrollment, scholarship management, evaluation of transfer credits, career services, and administrative student activities.
- Coordinates advising activities and advises students on courses related to the minor/ emphasis.
- Develops and manages the co-op/internships program and serves as liaison with industry for recruiting events and activities. Advises students on career matters, interview preparation and resume review, etc.
- Coordinate and conduct new student orientation efforts each summer. See that all students able to register for CME course, are given accurate information about the academic programs, and answer questions/concerns of new students and parents in individual meetings as needed.
- Prepares documentation for supporting agencies pertaining to scholarships and other expenses.
- Serves as a liaison to other administrative or academic departments on the UM campus or at other academic institutions or organizations.
- Coordinates, collects, and submits program assessment data and reports as required by the University and other related organizations.
- Coordinates scholarship administration activities to include, review of scholarship applications, preparation of scholarship budgets, decisions regarding allocation of funds, conduction of scholarship committee meetings, selection and notification of recipients, and oversight of student academic progress to ensure award requirements are met.
- Coordinates the application and selection process for several "special" scholarship/awards including the annual Outstanding Senior Award.
- Manages grant projects and sponsored programs for the Center; identifies and maintains a list of potential funding opportunities; coordinates project proposals and applications; directs program activities and reporting as required by the project sponsor.
- Oversees course event planning for the Center through SAP; facilitates the assignment of instructors for all CME courses; determines location, meeting days, times, sections, etc.
- Plans and coordinates the program's graduation commencement activities and ceremony.
- Develops and teaches appropriate courses as needed.
- Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions

- Oversees all academic and educational programs within the CME program.
- Directs and implements activities pertaining to student advising, career counseling, course scheduling, cooperative education/career placement, academic progression, scholarship administration, commencement, program assessment, and record maintenance.
- Supports the Executive Director and provide supervisory guidance and feedback to support staff as needed.
Minimum Education/Experience
Education:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience related to the above described duties.
